What caused Teresa's hearing loss?

  1. Was it the 21 gun salute? As her Dad was in the Navy.
  2. Malnutrition?  The military pay was poverty pay at that time. Not enough for rent and food sometimes.
  3. Genetics?  Her Aunt Peggy is Deaf.

Teresa adapted to her hearing loss disability and went on to become an ICU/ED RN Manager. After getting hearing aids (medical prosthetic devices) at age 22 years old after nursing school.  She is a graduate of UCSD with a BA in Communications.

Having grown up with parents and a sibling with hearing loss he understands the nuisances of this social and physical disease from this perspective. He is a strong supporter and suggest every business implement the Hearing Friendly Program in their platform.

The HearC Team

Teresa  Barnes, RN, Founder of HearCommunication - a business educational company -  has had a hearing loss since birth.  Ms. Barnes is a former ED Manager with more than 20 years of experience in the medical field.  She holds a BA in Communications from UCSD and is a board certified registered nurse in California.  Due to a  potentially life threatening accident for not hearing a warning shout from behind, she created  the Hearing Friendly Symbol.  Hearing loss now has a new 21st Century symbol that focuses on those who  have mild, moderate, severe, or profound hearing loss. Originally to used as a way to give hearing loss visibility for safety and awareness.  In addition, the hearing-friendly symbol is an attraction magnet for businesses that want to serve this market and to aid in hearing conservation.

Ms. Barnes developed the Hearing Friendly Training and Certification Program.  She is available for speaking presentations and is the author of Sound Advice: Tune Into Listening which is available on Amazon.
